La Universidad de La Habana

The Alma Mater is the statue that simbolizes Havana university. It is a woman with open arms, who welcomes the students to the most important university in Cuba.
The institution was founded in 1728, in Old Havana, and transferred in 1902 to its current site, in Vedado neiborghood (Havana downtown). It has a beautiful staircase (La Escalinata), with the statue on top.
